It turns out that explaining to a school that I was detained for an extended amount of time for questioning, and then forgotten about until someone checked the holding room, leads to a lot of questions.

Also, I will need to repeat a school year due to missing too many days to stay under the threshold.

Troublesome.

Irregardless, my aims have not changed. I will be staying in Domino City in order to refine my search parameters, thanks to recent events.

So you registered an anomaly similar to the person of interest you've been looking for on December... 9th. And then were mysteriously released nine days later.

[The day of the Challhua incident? Damn my detective's instinct.]

...What can you tell me about the readings you acquired on the 9th, out of curiosity?

The reading lasted for about 30 minutes, according to my sensors. As I was in a sealed room that blocked most signals, I could only determine that someone was in a short radius that fit the signature-- and that they were soon gone, as though running. My estimations state that my sensor would have only been able to cover the length of an average building, with the blockades in effect.

Did something of particular interest happen on the 9th?

Yes, as it happens. At roughly the time you mentioned, a supernatural incident - a man possessed by a dark god known as Chacu Challhua attempted to summon his patron through use of a citywide gylph.

[He folds the tablet back down and brings up a holographic display of the city from it.]

The epicenter of this event was "Leo Duel School", which is located... [ Ping, small blip on the LDS building.] Here.

Did you have additional sensory data at the time this happened? If so, that would allow us to pinpoint where you were being held.

No, but with information in hand, it is quite likely I was being held within the "Leo Duel School" building itself. It was where I was initially confronted, though I was moved to a further point after my release.

I do recall a sense of something... unnatural, like a bubble had formed around an area within my radius, but as it did not match the signatures I was looking for, I only noted it as an "unusual occurrence". Though, perhaps...

Do you mind if I can see the tablet, for a moment?

A bubble...yes, that would have very likely been the containment field for Challhua. Almost certainly placing you within the building at the time of the incident, based on your own estimations of how far your sensors could reach at the time.

*as you slide over the tablet, she places her hand over where it stops, as-- lines appear on her fingers, glowing. She moves her index and ring fingers apart as the hologram of the city expands to the LDS School.

As she does, the dots appear to form: one showing herself where it'd be estimated to be "below ground"-- but also where the duel was taking place for Chacu Challhua, small signals around the building itself. But most importantly, a dark dot, that makes you think of how a blacklight would look, that seems to come into view from outside of LDS, around the back, that moves to be inside...*

[He's pulled out his phone and he's currently taking notes, frowning, brow furrowed.]

I... see. I think.

*she doesn't respond, as the dot keeps moving-- having gone up, and then down, and then speeding up as though running out of the building--

I saw a dark dot circle around the backside of the LDS building and make its way inside.

I was at that exact spot that night, and I believe saw said dot, in question. But it still doesn't entirely add up, to me...

When you were processing all that, there was a dark dot running around the building - I assume the one your scanners picked up as matching what you were looking for. But...

Well, put bluntly, they seemed like a kid, related to the researcher who was at Leo Duel School that night, so I don't have any idea how they connect to your... case, so to speak.

Ren is definitely putting others at risk... I'd hope he'd have found a similar situation to myself...

[He describes, roughly, what he saw of a certain youth attempting to clamber into the LDS window that night.]

They seemed bizzarely... driven, all things considered.

The description does not match Ren, but it is quite likely him.

And being "driven" sounds... Normal, for the situation at hand. If I were to describe it, it is like... Only a minute amount of thoughts and ideas are able to be exercised at once, for this case, so it leads to an state of hyperfocus...?

I wish I could be more descriptive, but if I attempt to be specific, I could give off a very wrong impression as to what is going on. But that was, most likely, the one I was looking for.

Unless he has managed to gain some associates...

Well, they didn't exactly create a good lie in their panic. So that gives us somewhere to start...

...They mentioned their 'friend's' uncle was involved in the Challhua incident at the time. I know exactly who that is, thankfully - Mamoru Yamada, a researcher at LDS. I doubt he's directly connected, but...

Seriously, what is with that guy and getting involved with all sorts of stuff like this.

It was quite likely a convenient happenstance, but I am unaware of the details of how Ren is going about this, in particular. This is the first sign of any particular connection...

Which is troublesome, as he is effectively acting under a handicap. Stupid, he's so stupid...

A... handicap, you say? Is this related to the fact we have nothing to go on for his appearance? I'm aware you don't have any details on how this 'Ren' is going about this, but any further details may be helpful, as we wind up the incident report.

You also seem to be... fond, of this Ren. Were you two close?

I'm not exactly fond of him.

But he was, technically, a co-worker of sorts. And he caused... a lot of trouble, with this stunt in general.

As I said, the means of which we are here-- it causes instances of hyperfocus, but it is because... *she seems to try really hard to think of how to explain this*

Think of all of the actions you take in a day, and how informed they are by your memories, your thoughts. You're able to make choices thanks to those memories.

Now imagine your actions could only be defined by the most narrow selection of thoughts and memories, if at all.

That seems... potentially dangerous. To the extreme, in fact. Not that I don't understand hyperfocus, I do, but also.

It is an "occupational hazard", but his method is inadvisable.

But... this can work to my advantage. I assume he is unaware that he has been noticed at all?

Hm, occupational hazard... [...Where have I heard this kind of problem before. I feel like I know this and I don't like that I do.]

The person I spotted made it inside the building before I could give chase, I lost them after that, and we haven't had any missing persons' reports come in, so my assumption is they thought of me a close call.

I see. I can potentially work this to my advantage.

Is there any way that a picture can be produced of him? So that I may then plan on how to approach the situation and cut off the influence that Ren has.

Hmmm. Not right away, at least. But, given I have my suspicions, I can follow up on a lead and contact Mr. Yamada for further details and get back to you on that.

Ah... Very well. This is still a marked improvement in my situation over... "Not knowing who or how Ren is acting in the slightest", but at least now I have something to ask others.
